Version one, Under Armour Connected Footwear; a low power, accelerommetry driven, bluetooth enabled foot pod with super smart alogrithms and onboard memory. The best part about this technology is that it creates little to no friction for the runner. It does not impact the ride or feel of the shoe.
It is extremely light weight. It requires no charging. And it automatically tracks your runs. Get all your data; pace, distance and duration for every run stored and synced to UA MapMyRun.
In 2015, the Under Armour Product Innovation team had gotten footpod hardware to a stage where we could build a compelling and feasible consumer product. As an integrated team of designers, engineers, product managers and researchers we now had to build a software experience that got it off the ground. Version one left plenty of opportunities for iteration and improvment, however, the team shipped a solid proof of concept and learned a ton about the user expectations and experience.
To date, Connected Footwear has proven to be a very succseful program driving a point of differentiation in a crowded performance run footwear market. Version one started it all.
